What a house manager costs

House managers in Ohio typically earn $25 to $45 an hour, depending on the city, the hours, and the experience you're looking for. You pay your house manager directly as their employer, plus the normal employer payroll taxes. We'll give you a fair range for your area before the search starts.

No government survey reports pay for house managers as a separate job, and BLS wage data (OEWS) doesn't cover workers employed by private households.

Salary.com figures come from job postings and lean toward full-time roles, so part-time hourly rates are often lower.

How hiring works

It starts with a free 20-minute call. If we're a good fit, a $750 deposit starts your search, and we have a 60-minute kickoff call about your home: your weekly schedule, your kids and pets, and what you want to hand off. We write the job description and a fair pay range for your area, then recruit house managers who live near you and phone-screen and interview them ourselves. About two weeks after you approve the job description, you meet two or three vetted finalists. If none of them are right, we send new finalists within 7 business days and keep going until one fits. Before you make an offer, we call references and run a background check, and we help you set the pay, hours, and start date. The $2,250 balance is due within 5 days of an accepted offer. Your house manager starts with a household playbook, we check in at 2 weeks, 30 days, and 90 days, and if they leave for any reason in the first 90 days, we search again at no extra fee.

Household employer notes

Federal household-employer taxes (every state)

If you pay a household employee $3,000 or more in cash wages in 2026, you withhold and pay Social Security and Medicare taxes (7.65% each for you and your employee). If you pay $1,000 or more in total cash wages in any calendar quarter, federal unemployment tax (FUTA) applies to the first $7,000 of wages. Most families file this on Schedule H with their own tax return or use a household payroll provider.
